FENCING CAMPS

SUmmer Beginner Camps

Have your kids (or you) been wanting to jump into the world of fencing, but haven't had a good springboard?  Have you started fencing recently and are looking for a good way to level up quickly?  The Fencing Club of Mercer County is happy to be hosting two weeklong summer camps for beginner fencers (sabre and foil), ages 8 and up.  No experience necessary, no special equipment necessary.  All fencing related items are provided by the club, you just need athletic clothing and shoes.

The focus of these camps is to go from zero to tournament ready, covering footwork, bladework, strategy, daily application, and ending the week with a camp tournament.  Each camp is weapon specific, so if you are unclear on which weapon you are most interested here are some good high-level explanations of the two.

Foil - Sports Explainer: The classic fencing weapon, the 'foil'

Sabre - Sports explainer: The sabre

A USA Fencing membership is required for participation in these camps, if you do not already have one you can register for it at member.usafencing.org/signup.  USA Fencing offers a free 90-day trial for new members.  The cost for these camps is $400 per week.  Snacks and water will be provided, but lunch will not.  If you have any questions, please do not hesitate to reach out via phone or email.

Competitive Sabre Camp

Are you an experienced sabre fencer looking to break into the Regional or National circuit?  Are you a high school fencer ready to step it up for the next season?  FCMC is offering a Competitive Sabre Camp this year geared towards intermediate and up fencers, ages 10+.  Strategy, and how you think about fencing in general, is a huge part of higher level fencing, and we make sure that is just as much a part of advanced training as technique (which is still very important).

This camp is a weeklong camp, covering topics starting at fundamentals and technique, but has an emphasis on higher level footwork, bladework, strategy and tactics, and the mental game of fencing.  The week will end with a camp tournament.

Club Collegiate Sabre Camp

Collegiate Club Fencing is an important part of the collegiate fencing landscape and offers great opportunities to continue fencing in college when there is not a varsity program, but it doesn't come without its challenges.  More often than not, coaching on a Club team comes from older and/or more experienced fencers on the team.  In working with the College of William and Mary, the Fencing Club of Mercer County is hosting a summer sabre camp geared towards sabre fencers on collegiate club teams, focusing on both fencing and team coaching/leadership.

This camp is a weeklong camp, covering topics from basic footwork and bladework through and advanced strategy and mental preparedness, and gives the fencers the opportunity apply what they've learned, and teach what they've learned, daily.  The week will end with a camp tournament, with a twist.
